This bookmark is designed by Book Ephemera, a small business in Norwich that makes bookmarks in the form of the papers that pass through the hands of characters in well-known novels. This one takes the form of a Catholic prayer card, made for readers of William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist, first published in 1971 and filmed two years later.
The card carries an illustration of St Michael the Archangel together with the text of the exorcism prayer of St Michael, a prayer first published under Pope Leo XIII in the late nineteenth century. Prayer cards of this kind were traditionally kept between the pages of a missal or Bible, which makes the format a natural one for a bookmark.
Book Ephemera plants a tree for every bookmark it sells and sends its bookmarks out in plastic-free packaging.
How to Care for Your Prayer Card Bookmark
Keep the card flat and dry inside the book, and hold it by the edges, since the oils from fingers gradually mark printed card. Kept this way it will stay crisp for as long as the book is in use.
- Material: printed card
