Matsumoto Hoji, a Japanese illustrator of the late 18th century, created frog prints from the Meika Gafu album. His frog prints are known for their minimalist composition, classic ukiyo-e style, and charming subjects. The prints draw on the folkloric symbolism of the frog in Japan, where it represents good luck and prosperity.

Text on the reverse side:

A contemporary film director adaptation of a Japanese woodblock print from 1814. The Japanese word for frog is “kaeru”, which can also mean “to return”. The frog is considered to bring good luck, representing good things returning.
