The Amorum Letterpress Greeting Card is printed in Glasgow by The Passenger Press, on paper milled in the UK, from an archival print dating from 1895. Amorum is Latin for “of loves”, and the card belongs to the press's collection of images found tucked away in archives and brought back into use.

Rhian Nicholas, who founded The Passenger Press after studying Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art, prints each batch by hand on one of her two vintage letterpresses in her studio and shop in the city. Letterpress presses the inked image into the paper, so the design sits slightly into the surface of the card and can be felt as well as seen.

Because the cards are inked and printed in small batches, the colour can vary a little in strength from one card to the next, which is part of the character of a hand-run press. It comes with a brown kraft envelope and suits an anniversary, a wedding or Valentine's Day.

We stock The Passenger Press because the cards are printed on the other side of the city from us, and because each one brings a forgotten image back out of an archive.

Care for a Letterpress Card

Keep the card lying flat until you send it, because heavy things stacked on top can flatten the pressed image. Once it is on display, keep it out of direct sunlight so the ink holds its colour.
