Birthday Cake Letterpress Greeting Card

The Birthday Cake Letterpress Greeting Card is printed in Glasgow by The Passenger Press, on paper milled in the UK, and shows a 14lb cake taken from an archive image, with a happy birthday greeting. A QR code on the back links to the story of where the picture was found.

Rhian Nicholas founded the press after studying Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art, and she prints her cards by hand on two vintage presses, a Vandercook proofing press and a 1930s Autovic, in her studio and shop in Glasgow.

Letterpress leaves a faint impression in the card, and as each batch is inked by hand no two runs are quite the same in colour. It comes with a brown kraft envelope.

We stock it because it is a cheerful birthday card with a real piece of history behind it.

Storing Letterpress Cards

Keep the card in its envelope and lying flat until the birthday, which protects the paper from scuffs and bent corners. Stood on a shelf afterwards, it will hold its colour best away from a sunny window.
