Italian Leather Crossbody Bag

Montte di Jinne have worked with Italian leather artisans since 2010, and this small crossbody is made in modest batches, cut and finished by hand in full-grain leather.

Full-grain is the outermost layer of the hide, taken with its surface intact. It keeps the markings the animal carried, so the character of one bag differs a little from the next, and the leather grows softer and darker the longer it is used.

Beneath the snap-button flap sit a single zipped compartment and two open sections, finished with gold-tone hardware. The interior has been left unlined, which reveals the reverse of the leather and keeps the bag light in the hand. Its strap is adjustable and detachable, worn long across the body or drawn up to the shoulder.

Available in dark chocolate, black, denim blue and olive green.

How to Care for Your Leather

Leather requires surprisingly little care, and most of what it asks is that extremes be avoided. Kept away from prolonged damp and direct heat, it will remain in good condition for many years. Should the bag be caught in rain, blot it with a dry cloth and allow it to dry at room temperature; heat applied too quickly draws the moisture from the fibres and leaves the leather stiff.

A neutral conditioner, worked into the surface once or twice a year, will keep it supple and slow the drying that comes with age. The strap deserves particular attention, flexing more than the body of the bag and drying first. As the interior is unlined, the bag will take the shape of what is carried within it and settle into a form of its own over the first weeks of wear.
