This bookmark is designed by Book Ephemera, a small business in Norwich that makes bookmarks in the form of the papers that pass through the hands of characters in well-known novels. It takes the shape of Jonathan Harker's railway ticket in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Harker is the young solicitor sent across Europe to settle the purchase of a London house for Count Dracula, and the novel opens on his train journey east. The ticket is dated 1 May 1897, the date on which his journal records leaving Munich, and from there the line takes him through Vienna and Budapest towards Transylvania and the Borgo Pass.
Book Ephemera plants a tree for every bookmark it sells and sends its bookmarks out in plastic-free packaging.
How to Care for Your Ticket Bookmark
Like a real ticket, the card lasts longest when it is not bent, so keep it flat inside the book and slip it out by its edge. Damp and direct sunlight can fade the print over time, so a closed book on a shelf is the best place for it.
- Material: printed card
