Moon & Star Ceramic Windchime

This wind chime is made in Thailand from unglazed ceramic, with five strings of stars, crescent moons and suns suspended together. It comes to us through Siesta, a Canterbury Fair Trade importer and a member of BAFTS, the British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers.

Left unglazed, the clay keeps its natural matt surface, and the pieces give a soft, low chime when they touch, quieter than the ring of metal.

In feng shui, wind chimes are hung at doorways and windows to slow and circulate chi, the energy the practice holds moves through a home, and ceramic chimes are associated with the earth element.

Caring for an Unglazed Ceramic Chime

Unglazed ceramic absorbs water, and if that water freezes inside the clay it expands and can crack the pieces. Hang the chime under cover, or bring it indoors over winter. Dust it with a soft brush, and untangle the strings by holding the chime from the top and letting them fall free.
