Nicky Bordeaux Skinny Silk Scarf

Nicky in bordeaux is a skinny silk scarf from Les Belles Vagabondes, 8 x 150cm. Françoise draws each design by hand in France, starting in pencil and refining in ink before the drawing is scanned and separated out colour by colour for printing.

At this length it works in the hair, at the neck, as a belt, round a wrist, or tied to a bag.

How the Printing Works

Traditional Indian screen printing means one frame per colour. A micro-perforated stencil is stretched over a flat frame and each colour pushed through separately, the layers building up until the design appears. The workshop mixes its own shades from powdered dyes and natural gums, with over 500 colours to draw on.

After printing and processing, the silk is cut by hand and finished by hand.

Les Belles Vagabondes' printing partner belongs to SEDEX, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, and is audited under SMETA, covering labour rights, health and safety, environmental practice and business ethics. The dyes are AZO-free, free of heavy metals and hazardous chemicals.

How to Care for Your Silk

Hand wash cool with a gentle detergent, or dry clean. Blot rather than wring. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight, and store it out of a bright window.
