This octopus hanging decoration is handmade in India from recycled aluminium with a gold-tone finish, its curling tentacles and characterful face worked on both sides so it looks the same from either side as it turns. An octopus is a little unexpected on a Christmas tree, which is why we like it there, and it is just as much at home in a bathroom window or above a desk for the rest of the year.
Aluminium can be melted down and reused again and again without losing its properties, and recycling it uses considerably less energy than producing new metal. Each octopus is made and finished by hand, so the tone of the gold and the definition of the tentacles vary slightly from one to the next.
We source these from a supplier who describes the workshop that makes them as committed to its community, providing meaningful jobs and supporting local projects.
Looking After Your Aluminium Octopus
Wipe it with a soft cloth that is barely damp and dry it straight away, because standing water can mark the gold-tone surface. Keep scouring pads and polish away from it, as they can rub through the finish to the bare metal underneath.
- Material: recycled aluminium, gold-tone finish
- Size: approx. 9 x 10cm
- Made in: India
- Decoration only, not a toy
