This sea green marbled bauble is mouth-blown in glass and has a mottled, speckled surface that looks more like old stone or glazed pottery than polished glass. At about 10cm across, it is a large bauble that holds its own on a full-sized tree, and a few gathered in a bowl make a centrepiece for the Christmas table.

Mouth-blowing starts with a gather of molten glass on the end of a blowpipe, which the glassblower inflates by breath into a sphere before it is cooled and finished. Because each bauble is blown individually, the speckling, the depth of colour and even the roundness vary slightly from one to the next.

We source these from a supplier who works directly with the craftspeople who make them.

Handling Your Glass Bauble

Hold the bauble by its cap and loop, as thin glass can crack if it is squeezed. Dust it with a dry cloth or a soft brush, and pack it in its own nest of tissue, with nothing heavy above it, when it goes away for the year.
