Swallow Hanging Decoration

This swallow hanging decoration is handmade in India with a silver-tone finish and shows a swallow in flight, with its long forked tail and swept-back wings. At about 28cm across, it is one of the larger hanging pieces on our shelves this Christmas, and it looks as good on a wall or above a doorway as it does on a substantial tree.

Swallows have long been painted, carved and tattooed as a sign of return, since the birds come back to the same nesting places each spring after wintering in Africa. That idea of homecoming suits a decoration that comes back out of the box every December and stays up on the wall long after.

Because each swallow is made by hand, the detailing varies a little from piece to piece. We source these from a supplier who designs them in the UK and works directly with the small workshops in India where they are made.

Caring for Your Swallow

Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, and keep water and metal polish away from it, since both can dull or wear away a silver-tone finish. The tail and wingtips are fine, so store it flat, wrapped in tissue, where nothing heavy can bend it.
