Made in France, Duralex are a workers’ cooperative with over 70 years of creating classic, durable glassware for everyday use.
With its iconic tapered shape and classic French café aesthetic, the Picardie has a retro feel that never dates. This is everyday glassware with effortless chic - making whatever you’re drinking feel like more of an occasion.
Sturdy enough for families, elegant enough for guests, and practical enough for everything in between. The Picardie works equally well for water, wine, juice, or a short measure of something stronger. Its satisfying weight and slightly tapered shape make it comfortable to hold, and the stackable design means it takes up minimal space in your cupboard. Available in four colours with a food-safe, environmentally friendly organic spray finish - mix and match for a relaxed table setting or keep them uniform for something more considered.
Sold individually so you can build your set gradually or replace a single glass without buying a whole new set. Most people find they come back for more.
Sustainable Glassware Made in France
Duralex has been producing glassware in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, France for over 70 years. Everything is made in a single factory using techniques refined over decades, with no outsourcing and no compromise on quality. Buying Duralex is buying glassware with a clear, traceable provenance - made properly, in one place, by people who know exactly what they’re doing.
Glassware that genuinely lasts is also one of the more quietly sustainable choices you can make for your home. The Picardie isn’t a glass you replace every couple of years. Buy a set and it will likely outlast several rounds of cheaper alternatives.
Tempered Glass Built to Last
What sets the Picardie apart from ordinary, everyday glassware is the tempering process. Duralex tempered glass is significantly stronger than standard glass, resistant to both heat and impact, and far less likely to chip or crack with normal use. When it does eventually break - which takes considerably more effort than you’d expect - it shatters into small blunt pieces rather than dangerous shards. It’s the kind of detail that matters in a busy kitchen or a family home.
The same tempering process that makes it tough also makes it suitable for both hot and cold drinks, so one glass does the job of several.
Employee-Owned and Ethically Made
What makes Duralex genuinely worth supporting is the ownership model. In July 2024, Duralex became a SCOP, a worker-owned cooperative, a move that secures jobs and has restored confidence among staff. The people making the glass have a real stake in the business and a direct interest in the quality of every piece that leaves the factory. It’s a model Kelvin Rooms wholeheartedly believes in, and one of the reasons we’ve stocked Duralex from the beginning. When you buy Duralex glass, you’re supporting a French workers’ cooperative with over seven decades of craft behind it.
