Knitted Wool Stocking Christmas Tree Decoration

This miniature stocking is knitted in wool in Nepal and designed in-house at Namaste, the UK Fair Trade importer. It is patterned with a snowflake, bands of zig-zags and stripes in festive colours, and has a loop for hanging on the tree.

The stocking is made by a company founded in 1994 as an economic development project, with the aim of giving paid work to women in Nepal's towns and villages who were living in poverty and cut off from wider trade. It was the first company in Nepal to be certified by Fair Trade USA. As each stocking is made by hand, the tension and the placing of the pattern vary slightly from one to another.

How to Care for Your Knitted Decoration

Wipe the stocking with a damp cloth if it needs it, pressing it gently into shape while it is still damp, and leave it to dry flat at room temperature. Heat applied too quickly can shrink wool and tighten the stitches. Pack it away dry, with the rest of the wool decorations, somewhere moths cannot reach.
