Man on the Moon Sewn Garland

This celestial garland carries twenty moons and stars, sewn along a three-metre cotton thread. East End Press design their garlands in Glasgow, and each shape is screen printed by hand on both sides by printers in Jaipur.

The paper is made in India from recycled cotton pulp, the offcuts of the textile industry broken down and pressed into sheets. Because both sides are printed, the garland looks finished from either side as it turns in a draught.

Caring for a Sewn Paper Garland

Keep the garland dry and away from heat, since recycled paper softens in damp and curls near a radiator. If the thread tangles, hang it from one end and let the shapes turn free before easing the knot apart. Between uses, coil it loosely in a box or envelope where nothing heavy will press on the shapes.
