Ribbon Bow Christmas Decoration

This gold-coloured ribbon bow is cast in recycled aluminium in India and imported by Namaste, a UK Fair Trade company. The bow is full and generously looped, it is worked on both sides so it hangs well from any angle, and it comes on a length of red velvet.

Cast in metal, the bow holds its loops and tails exactly as they were made, Christmas after Christmas. It suits the top of a wrapped present as well as a branch, and can be tied on to a gift as part of it.

The aluminium has been recycled and recast. It is a metal that keeps its properties through repeated recycling, and remelting it takes considerably less energy than making new aluminium. The workshop in India that casts it supports its community through employment and local projects, and it has opened casting work, traditionally a male trade there, to women as modern equipment has made the heavier stages more manageable.

How to Care for Your Gold Bow

Dust the bow with a dry, soft cloth, or wipe it with one barely dampened if it has been handled. Dry it fully afterwards and keep polishes and abrasives away from it, since they would take off the gold-coloured surface. Wrapped in tissue and stored somewhere dry, it will come out looking the same next December.
