Khaki Peace and Love - Mini Square Silk Scarf

Peace and Love in khaki is a mini scarf from Les Belles Vagabondes, 50 x 50cm of pure silk with a hand-rolled hem. The brand was founded in France in 2018 by Françoise, a self-taught designer who came to it from graphic design.

The size is the point of it: small enough to tie at the neck, wind round a wrist, wear as a headband or through a bun, or knot onto a bag handle.

How the Printing Works

These are screen printed by hand in India. The method needs one frame per colour, each pushed through a micro-perforated stencil and layered over the last. The workshop blends its own colours from powdered dyes and natural gums, working with more than 500 shades.

Printing happens on tables 24 to 36 metres long, which can hold up to 450 mini scarves in a session. Each one is then cut by hand and given a French-style hand-rolled hem.

How This Scarf Is Made

The printing workshop is a member of SEDEX, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, and is audited under SMETA, which assesses labour rights, health and safety, environmental practice and business ethics. Dyes are AZO-free, with no heavy metals or hazardous chemicals.

How to Care for Your Silk

Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Roll it in a towel to draw out the water instead of wringing it. Dry away from heat, and iron cool on the reverse if needed.
