Catherine Tough Men's Lambswool Socks

Catherine Tough has been designing lambswool socks in her East London studio for more than two decades, since graduating in textiles from the Royal College of Art. Her men's socks are knitted in Portugal and share the eye for colour and pattern that runs through the rest of her collection, in designs that sit comfortably between classic and playful.

This season's pair is a squares pattern in green and mustard, a warm, autumnal combination that looks at home with denim, cords or tweed.

Men's Wool Socks

They are 80% lambswool and 20% nylon and polyamide. Lambswool, the soft wool from a sheep's first shearing, gives warmth and comfort, while the nylon reinforces the heel and toe and helps the socks hold their fit. They measure 20 centimetres from heel to top, sitting just below the calf, with an elasticated top that stays up without digging in.

Midweight and soft, they wear well in boots and brogues and double as house socks on winter evenings.
