Catherine Tough Women's Lambswool Knee-High Socks

Catherine Tough has been making lambswool socks for more than twenty years, designing them in the Hackney studio she set up after studying textiles at the Royal College of Art. Her knee socks are among the designs she is best known for, knitted in Portugal in patterns that change a little each season.

This pair is a fine stripe in dark red and pink. They measure 33 centimetres from heel to top and reach just below the knee, long enough to sit above the line of a boot and keep the whole calf warm.

Lambswool Knee-High Socks

The socks are 80% lambswool, with 20% nylon and polyamide added for strength at the heel and toe and to help them keep their fit. Lambswool is the soft fleece from a young sheep's first shearing, which is where these socks get their softness against the skin. An elasticated top holds them up without pinching.

They are midweight. Wear them with knee boots through the winter, on a long walk, or around the house as bed socks on the coldest nights.
