Christmas Elf Fold-Out Card

The Christmas Elf Fold-Out Card is a hand-finished card by Vicki Brett of Manymoon Fables, printed on card in her studio in Stroud and inspired by vintage children's illustrations. On the front, two children dressed up as elves hold a scroll between them, and when the card is unfolded it reveals the rest of the scroll, with a long space for a Christmas message.

After printing, Vicki cuts, scores and folds each card by hand and then adds the gold detailing herself, so the whole card, from the drawing to the final touch of gold, passes through the hands of one artist.

That handwork means each card differs very slightly from the next, in the line of a fold or the way the gold has been laid, and we love it for those small signs of the person who made it. It makes a lovely card for a child, who can unfold the scroll to find their message, or for anyone with a fondness for old storybooks.

We stock the Manymoon cards because Vicki makes each one herself in a small studio in England, and they bring a little of the feeling of an old Christmas annual to our card racks.

Keeping It Safe Until Christmas

Keep the card folded and flat until you send it, so the hand-scored creases open cleanly when the scroll is unfolded. Once it's up on display, a spot out of direct sun will keep the inks bright, and keeping it away from steamy kitchens and damp windows will stop the card from softening.
