Green Shippo is a silk scarf from Les Belles Vagabondes, hand-drawn in France and screen printed by hand in India. Françoise, who founded the brand in 2018, works up each design from a pencil sketch through ink before it is scanned and separated into its component colours.

It can be tied at the neck, wound round a wrist, worn in the hair, or knotted onto a bag handle.

How the Printing Works

Traditional screen printing needs a separate frame for every colour in a design. A micro-perforated stencil is stretched over a flat frame and the colour pushed through, one layer over the next, until the image is complete. The greens are blended in the workshop from powdered dyes and natural gums, drawn from a palette of more than 500 shades.

Printing runs on tables between 24 and 36 metres long. Each scarf is then cut by hand and finished with a French-style hand-rolled hem.

How This Scarf Is Made

The workshop is a member of SEDEX, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, and is audited under the SMETA framework, covering labour rights, health and safety, environmental practice and business ethics. The dyes are AZO-free and contain no heavy metals or hazardous chemicals.

How to Care for Your Silk

Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, or dry clean. Silk loses strength when wet, so blot rather than wring. Dry flat and away from direct heat and sunlight.
