Peace and Love in marine navy is one of Les Belles Vagabondes' recurring designs, printed here on pure silk. Each of Françoise's drawings is produced in six to eight colourways, which is why the same motif turns up in navy, khaki, orange and fuchsia across the range.
Worn at the neck, round a wrist, in the hair, or tied to the handle of a bag.
How the Printing Works
The brand refuses digital printing in favour of traditional Indian screen printing. One frame is cut for each colour, and the layers are superimposed in sequence to build the finished design. Dyes are mixed by hand from powders and natural gums, out of a workshop palette running past 500 shades.
Printing is done on long tables, up to 36 metres, and each scarf is afterwards cut by hand and hemmed in the French style, the edge rolled and stitched by hand.
How This Scarf Is Made
Les Belles Vagabondes print with a SEDEX member workshop, audited under the SMETA framework across labour rights, health and safety, environmental practice and business ethics. The dyes are AZO-free, free of heavy metals and hazardous chemicals. The brand uses no synthetic fibres.
How to Care for Your Silk
Hand wash cool with a gentle detergent, or dry clean. Press the water out in a towel rather than twisting. Dry away from direct heat and sunlight, and store it folded rather than hanging.
Material: 100% silk
Finish: hand-rolled hem
Design: hand-drawn in France
Print: hand screen-printed in India, AZO-free dyes
