Lucy Campbell paints at home in Scotland, and this card reproduces one of her original paintings: a dark-haired woman cradling a wolf in the forest. It is the image that brought us to the range, and it is the one that gets lifted off the rack first.
Wolves run through a great deal of Campbell's work, and her studio name says as much. LupiArt is taken from lupine, the Latin for wolf-like, and from Lupi-Lu, a nickname she had as a child. She has been exhibiting and selling original paintings since 2003 and began printing cards from them at the end of 2012, so each card carries a painting that existed in its own right first.
The card measures 15 x 15cm and is left blank inside. Each one arrives individually wrapped in a biodegradable cellophane sleeve with an envelope. The square format is part of why we chose these: a square painting printed on an upright card has to be cropped to fit, and here nothing is lost.
How to Look After Your Card
Write on the card in a dry room and give fountain pen ink a moment to set before closing it, since card that has taken up any damp will let a line feather. Keep spares flat and off windowsills, as printed inks fade at the edges first where daylight reaches them. If the card is going in the post, keep the cellophane sleeve around it to protect the printed face in transit.
